Many people will head to the pool to cool off from the heat this Memorial Day Weekend.

Alamo Fire Chief RC Flores said those at the pool need to take safety precautions.

If children are in the pool, they should always be supervised, Flores said. And if you use floatation devices, make sure to use the approved ones.

“If you are not a strong swimmer, then definitely don't take any chances do not go into the deep end,” Flores said.

Flores said it’s also important to avoid drinking alcohol when you are near water, and to never swim in any drainage canals.
