ALAMO – A local police department is tagging vehicles in an effort to make owners more aware.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS went on patrol with Alamo police officer Guillermo Figueroa to see the new tactic they claim can deter thieves.

Some cars pass the test but a yellow card means theft-vulnerable vehicles were found during an inspection.   

It only took seconds to find out why police check. Some drivers were caught leaving their vehicle unsecured.

In one case, a woman left her windows too low.

KRGV’s Angelo Vargas wanted to find out if this strategy works and if it’s an invitation for criminals.
