NEAR ELSA – Authorities in Hidalgo County are investigating a possible lightning strike fire that destroyed a home near Elsa.

Firefighters were called out Wednesday morning to a home on FM 88 and Mile 14.

Officials told CHANNEL 5 NEWS no one was in the home and the fire is under control.

The Weslaco fire chief tells us they believe a lightning strike was the cause of the blaze.

Departments from Edcouch, Elsa and Donna assisted in the call.
