MCALLEN – With hundreds injured in the aftermath of the mass shooting, local blood bank said Las Vegas is in need of supplies.

United Blood Services said they have sister facilities in Las Vegas that supply most of the blood in Las Vegas.

Frank Esparza said the Rio Grande Valley branch is ready to help with supplies if needed.

“United Blood Services has three centers in Las Vegas that have been open since early this morning. And they've had a lot of donors come in. We don't know if that supply is going to be enough to handle the situation,” said Esparza.

He said the decision to send blood will depend on what Vegas hospital request.

He said O negative and O positive blood types are critical, as is the need for blood platelets.
