The city of Brownsville Parks & Recreation Department is inviting residents to turn their natural Christmas trees into reusable mulch.

So far, 15 trees have been dropped off at the city’s Christmas tree drop-off locations.

“We take the mulch and we spread it throughout our park system, and it's just a better use and gives an extended life to the tree versus going into the landfill,” Brownsville Parks & Recreation Director Sean De Palma said.

Trees can be dropped off at Gonzalez Park, located at 34 Tony Gonzalez Drive, or Oliveira Park, located at 104 El Paso Road, through Jan. 9, 2026, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
