On Monday during a press conference, Cameron County Judge Eddie Treviño, Jr., broke down numbers and statistics hoping residents would have a clearer picture of the area's current crisis..

Using a timeline, Judge Treviño says the current surge in cases and positivity rate is alarming.

"It took us March, April, May, and half of June, to get to 1,546. In the past five days, we've had a total of 1,716 cases exceeding the total cumulative number to June the 20th by over 170 cases," explained Treviño.

The bulk of cases are in the 20 to 40 year old age categories.

Cameron County health authority Dr. James Castillo, echoed the judge's call to young residents to realize they have the power to help stop the spread - or make it worse.
