CBP to Send Valley Officers to CA, AZ Ahead of Caravan’s Arrival

WESLACO – Customs and Border Protection is sending officers from around the country to the California-Mexico border, including officers working in the Rio Grande Valley ports of entry.

A CBP spokesperson tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS officers from the CBP Laredo Field Office, which includes ports of entry from Del Rio to Brownsville, will be sent in to assist with the caravan that is arriving in Tijuana. 

CBP officers are being sent to California and Arizona from U.S. airports, seaports and land border crossings. 

The exact number sent from the Laredo Field Office was not disclosed.

On Tuesday, the El Paso Field Office had a similar announcement. Due to the directive, the El Paso international bridges will continue to experience delays.

The agency does not expect for this change to affect bridge wait times in the Valley.
