SAN JUAN – A sacred land soon might be neighbors with a border wall.

Descendants of those buried in the Eli Jackson Cemetery and Chapel are urging government officials to protect their land.

Members from the Carrizo Comecrudo tribe watch over the property 24/7.

Their goal is to be on the land when government workers stop by.

For Adelina Yarrito, this is her father’s resting place and now she worries about his grave, because of the proposed border wall.

A wall might be placed on the levee just a few feet away.

For nearly a year, this family has been in talks with Customs and Border Protection officials about the proposed project.
