BROWNSVILLE – Black Friday weekend is typically the busiest shopping time of the year.

Retail experts predict a 40% spike in sales, which is good news for some, but not all Rio Grande Valley business owners.

Local brick-and-mortar stores are fighting for your sales and loosing.

Employees at a Brownsville business says sales are too low to keep their doors open.

“You would think that during these months, with people coming from Matamoros, you might see an increase, but no,” said Linda Olvera, employee at J’s Fashion.

Holiday shoppers in the downtown area of Brownsville are noticing the slow down.

Olvera speculates shoppers have less money or the long wait times at the international bridge are keeping them away.
