HARLINGEN – Harlingen students are working together to launch the Life is Sweet Enough campaign to fight against diabetes and childhood obesity.

It promotes drinking more water and forgetting sugary beverages.

The prevalence of diabetes in the Rio Grande Valley is at 25%; that is double than the state of Texas, which sits at 12%.

Christopher Heiskell along with several other students helped kickstart the Life is Sweet Enough sugary beverages awareness campaign.

According to their research, popular sodas can contain more than 15 teaspoons of sugar. Water contains zero.
