HARLINGEN – A Harlingen woman is taking matters into her own hands by cleaning her home after it was destroyed by the recent floods.

Elizabeth White says she wants the city to come by and pick up all the garbage the floods created.

“Everything is gone all my furniture all belongings what I was able to save was very important items that belong to my mother family photos and also religious items,” she says.

She says she has been putting all the damaged furniture, debris and trash outside as the city has requested.

The tiles that were ripped off the floor, the shelves and her bedroom sets all had to be thrown out.

White says the pile was getting too big and people were opening her trash bags to try and take things.

She was forced to visit a dumpster herself.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to the City of Harlingen.

Spokesperson for the city, Rodrigo Davila, tells us they are doing their best to pick up all the debris from the June 24 floods.

Harlingen officials say they pick up every day, but there is no clear schedule on when each street will be visited for debris pick up.

They add you can call the city or send them an email with your request; that will also help them assess and create damage reports for state and national agencies.
