HARLINGEN – Every Christmas season one Harlingen woman spends countless hours in the kitchen with her grandchildren.

She teaches them how to perfect a decades-old family recipe for pan de polvo.

“It started with my mother back, back in the 40s I guess. She was the one that would always make the cookies and it’s just for really special occasions,” said Diana “Nana” Dones.

There are plenty of recipes for these baked goods out there, but Dones says it’s a couple of extra touches that make her cookies one-of-a-kind.
