WESLACO – Health officials are alerting local residents about the potential for a mosquito problem following heavy storms.

Flooded streets, drainages and standing water around the home are all breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

KRGV’s Angelo Vargas spoke with business owner Remy Villareal about the impact of this issue.

Hidalgo County officials say they will continue to spray when weather conditions permit.

"I'm estimating this could take as many as four to six weeks to be able to get under control. If we do not get any more rain,” says Hidalgo County Health Department Chief Administrative Officer Eddie Olivarez.
