NEAR MERCEDES – Hidalgo and Cameron counties are now sharing responsibility for Mile 3 East’s maintenance.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reported around a year ago, residents were concerned about the upkeep of the road.

Both counties are contributing to a $111,000 project that includes repaving and drainage infrastructure improvements.

Hidalgo County is working to install roadside ditches and culvert pipes on driveways on the west side.

Hidalgo County Precinct 1 Commissioner David Fuentes’ office said the project will take 10 to 12 weeks to complete.
