Hidalgo, Cameron Counties Use New Program to Improve Census Accuracy
EDINBURG – Thousands of addresses were missing from the census count in Hidalgo and Cameron Counties.
Officials are hopeful that a new program will help fill in those gaps.
Before the census questionnaire reaches residents, the Census Bureau must find the address in their master list.
Erika Reyna with Hidalgo County says they are updating the address list through a program called Local Update of Census Addresses, or LUCA.
The census list was missing 14,274 addresses in Hidalgo County, with 16,940 missing in Cameron County.
Both counties will continue to keep track of new developments.
KRGV’s Valerie Gonzalez has the details.
