EDINBURG – The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office released photos in hopes of identifying a body found in the Rio Grande.

Border Patrol agents discovered the body south of Hidalgo on Tuesday and notified sheriff’s investigators.  Alamo firefighters helped recover the body.

According to the sheriff’s office, the body had moderate signs of decomposition. Investigators determined the body found was that of a man between 30 and 40 years old. A justice of the peace ordered an autopsy.

The sheriff’s office released a photo of a tattoo on the man’s right chest, along with pictures of the clothing he wore. If you have any information about the man’s identity, you’re asked to call the Hidalgo County Crime Stoppers hotline at 956-668-TIPS (8477).
