Houston Woman, Mexican National Face Smuggling Charges

HIDALGO - U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Hidalgo and Anzalduas International Bridges arrested two women in connection with failed, unrelated drug smuggling attempts of hard narcotics worth $1,413,000.

The first seizure occurred on Oct. 2, 2019 at the Anzalduas-Reynosa International Bridge.

A CBP officer encountered a 40-year-old woman from Reynosa in a black 2018 Nissan March and a preliminary inspection revealed a suspicious package in the woman's purse.

The officer secured the woman, escorted her to secondary and the package resulted being alleged cocaine, weighing 2.64 pounds.

The value of the cocaine is $21,000.

On Oct. 3, at the Hidalgo International Bridge, a CBP officer referred a 20-year-old woman from Houston and the blue 2005 Ford F-150 she was driving for further inspection.

A canine team assisting in the examination allowed officers to discover 52.38 pounds of alleged methamphetamine in bulk form and two packages of alleged heroine.

The street value of the methamphetamine is $1,048,000 and $344,000 for the heroin.

CBP seized all the narcotics, both vehicles and arrested the two women involved in the failed drug smuggling attempts.

Homeland Security Investigations continues investigating these cases.
