MONTE ALTO – A Rio Grande Valley veteran says he was taken advantage of when he tried to buy a puppy online.

Army Vietnam Veteran Phil Ahrens says he wanted to train the canine to become a service dog following the death of his beloved German Shepherd, Lucky.

His family says the Colorado seller requested a wire transfer of over $500 after they signed a contract.

Ahrens tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS he never got the puppy or his money back, so he filed a police report.

KRGV’s Angelo Vargas reached out to the Better Business Bureau about pet fraud. The group’s president explains if a company wants you to make a money transfer, it’s often times a fraudulent act.
