WESLACO – A Rio Grande Valley family is on the verge of losing their only means of transportation; they either make a payment or risk losing their truck. 

Daniel Ramirez tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS the problem, he now realizes, started in April of last year.

Ramirez says he met a woman via Facebook who was selling a truck. He says the only catch is he would have to pay her $2,500 and continue making payments on the remaining balance.

The father of one says the truck he purchased was the only way he had to transport 5-year-old to and from school and take his girlfriend, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, to doctor's appointments. 

Ramirez says he and the seller went to the car lot. He says the staff at the location agreed to the transaction, so long as they continued receiving payments.  However, he says, the title would only be signed over once the truck was paid in full.  

He says last month, the truck tags needed to be renewed.

Ramirez says he obtained the inspection certificate but is unable to renew the tags since he’s not the title holder.

“They told me, ‘Just go ahead and keep paying the truck.’ And when I finished paying the truck, they were going to give me or call her and give me the title and make that exchange,” he says.  

Ramirez says the truck still legally belongs to the woman on the other end of the deal, but he has been unable to track her whereabouts.

He says she's nowhere to be found.  

The manager in charge at the car lot spoke to CHANNEL 5 NEWS off camera on Wednesday.

He says the deal between Ramirez and the woman doesn't involve them. He adds they’re concerned about the monthly payment. 

The manager said the title will only release once the vehicle is paid off – at that point they'll visit with both parties to witness the exchange.
