McAllen flower shop cuts back on stock for Mother’s Day
Flower shops across the Rio Grande Valley are getting ready for Mother's Day this weekend.
Flower Hut owner Gerardo Gonzalez said the holiday usually brings in big sales. He said the shop averages 60 to 80 orders on Friday, around 150 on Saturday, and 50 to 80 on Sunday.
But this year, Gonzalez said he changed how much he ordered for his McAllen business.
"I was conservative in my purchasing. I did not buy as much as other holidays because Valentine's was not as busy, so we were down a little bit, so I was more conservative," Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said in the 22 years he's been in business, this past Valentine's Day was the second worst year for sales he has ever had.
He said he does not know why fewer people came to his shop but hopes mothers are still being celebrated this year.
