MCALLEN – It's been five years since Catholic Charities started helping migrants crossing into the Rio Grande Valley.

Sunday, the site of a new respite center received a blessing.

Auxiliary Bishop, Mario Aviles gave the blessing at the new 15th Street location.

The current facility is on Hackberry Avenue.

The official move to the new site is expected this week.

"I think it's better for everybody," said Sister Norma Pimentel. "We're right across the street from the bus station. It's a larger building, so it has great capacity. I think we're all truly happy that we're moving because the other location, actually right now is quite smaller."

The move was prompted by concerns from residents in the neighborhood, who worried about pick-ups, drop-offs and strangers wandering their neighborhood.
