MISSION – Officials at the National Butterfly Center say they will appeal the decision made by a federal judge that would allow a border fence on the property.

They say construction of a border wall would destroy natural habitats that cannot be replaced.

Last week, a federal judge threw out a lawsuit filed by the National Butterfly Center, which attempted to stop the federal government from building the border wall across its land.

KRGV’s Daisy Martinez spoke with the center’s executive director, Marianna Treviño-Wright. She says the fight isn’t over.

The bi-partisan Appropriations Bill, which was approved last week, includes language to prohibit funds from being used for a border wall at the National Butterfly Center, La Lomita Chapel, Bentsen State Park, Santa Ana Wildlife Refuge and SpaceX.
