EDINBURG - Over 165 soldiers arrived in March to assist Customs and Border Protection in helping to protect the southern border.

Military personnel are helping agents mostly with administrative tasks to allow agents to get back to patrolling the border.

The increase of immigrant apprehensions forced agents to be pulled from their original duties.

A spokesman for the U.S. Army north tells us military personnel use the mobile surveillance camera vehicles to observe and report illegal activity to CBP.

“It allows us to move these cameras wherever they are needed so logistically if there is an area where it is used more for illegal entry these cameras can be moved to those locations,” he says.

Soldiers are schedules to be in the Rio Grande Valley until September of this year.
