MISSION – Several people were escorted from the levee at Bentsen State Park by police and federal agents Thursday.

Some people who are part of the Carrizo/Comecrudo Tribe of Texas were seen walking on the levee. They are trying to lay claim on this land.

We’re told they were escorted by Mission police and Border Patrol agents.

Federal agents were seen in helicopter, which was too close for comfort for some onlookers.

Mission police officers blocked the entrance to the place where contractors are removing vegetation for the border wall.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection sent a statement regarding the incident:

“Last week contractors began removing vegetation along the levee system near La Parida Banco in Mission, Texas. The area to be cleared belongs to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife. The brush clearing activity is in preparation of Border Wall Project RGV -03 which is expected to begin in mid to late February.”
