The City of Roma Public Water System is working to find the source of an unusual odor that residents have reported in parts of the water system.

The city said current water quality readings at the treatment plant and chlorine levels throughout the system meet Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requirements.

The TCEQ classifies taste and odor issues as secondary water quality concerns tied to the aesthetic qualities of drinking water, but officials said they are taking the reports seriously.

City of Roma Public Water System workers are flushing main water lines across the distribution system to move water through and check conditions in areas where the odor has been reported.

Workers will also monitor water quality and chlorine levels, document customer reports and continue looking into the source of the odor.

Residents may notice temporary changes in water clarity or pressure while the flushing work is underway.
