Teen Met with Additional Charges after Fleeing Custody
NEAR SAN BENITO – A 16-year-old is back in custody after escaping from police Monday afternoon.
Combes police arrested the teen early afternoon for burglary of a vehicle.
When officers took the teen to Darrell B. Hester Juvenile Detention Center in San Benito, he broke loose and made off on foot.
Harlingen police were working on a different case but joined the chase soon after the teen’s escape. San Benito police also helped secure the perimeter to find the escapee.
The teen was found hidden in the brush about 200 yards north of the center.
The teen faces additional escape charges.
