RAYMONDVILLE – Commissioners are extending a temporary ban on all new business permits in Willacy County in an effort to control 8-liners.

The extension comes after the county reached the end of a 30-day ban. The Willacy County judge said the county is looking at its legal options to specifically regulate 8-liners and not all commercial businesses.

“It’s not beneficial for us to prolong halting commercial permits,” Willacy County Judge Aurelio Guerra said. “We’re needing more time to go through legal, both our district attorney, which is our county attorney and an independent counsel, to where they both agree that we’re within our means to be able to regulate them.”

Commissioners voted to continue the broad restriction until Feb. 8.
