Texas deputy fatally shot during during traffic stop
CARTHAGE, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a sheriff's deputy was fatally shot early Monday during a traffic stop in East Texas. The Panola County sheriff's office said one of its deputies had stopped a sport utility vehicle at about 2 a.m. when the driver got out of the vehicle fired a weapon numerous times that the deputy. The sheriff's office said the deputy returned fire and the suspect fled, but was later arrested by police in Shreveport, Louisiana. Nearby residents who heard the gunshots found the injured deputy and called for help. The unidentified deputy died at the hospital.
