Traffic Plan for South Padre Island Marathon
SOUTH PADRE ISLAND - South Padre Island is excited to welcome back the South Padre Marathon which is scheduled for Sunday,Nov.12,2017.Both races will begin at 6:30 a.m.SPI Police Dept. along with other City departments will be working together to manage crowds and traffic control.Barrels and cones will be placed in areas to enhance the flow of traffic.
1. All eastbound traffic heading towards the Island will be directed (using cones/barrels and traffic personnel) to the westbound inside lane on the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway. The Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway eastbound lanes will be closed off for runners from approximately 6 a.m. to 8 a.m.
2. Contraflow traffic will continue on the westbound lanes, across the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway and left onto Padre Boulevard. Northbound traffic will be routed to the northbound interior lane.
3. Other significant traffic detours will be in place throughout the Island through midday. Please plan ahead for delays and rerouting.
