BROWNSVILLE – The federal government is warning people to not head south of the border because of violent crimes.

The U.S. Department of State reissued a travel advisory for several Mexican states, including Tamaulipas.

A member of a volunteer group tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS they started helping out after the Trump administration enacted the zero-tolerance policy several months ago.

“There were people camped out all along the bridges,” says Andrea Rudnick, “mothers, babies, men from all different countries. It was really an intolerable situation.”

KRGV’s Trason Bragg learned their group takes cots, bedding, clothing and home cooked meals across the border.

Rudnick says warning or not, Team Brownsville will continue to cross the border to help asylum seekers.
