Voters headed to the polls on Tuesday to participate in Election Day.

Channel 5 News Reporter John Paul Barajas explained the turnout at the Palm View Community Center in McAllen.

McAllen Voter Felipe Tijerina said coming out to vote is a must.

"In all parts of the world voting is very important, so you can elect someone who is worth it and do something for the city to live in," Tijerina said.

Some things to remember if you head to the polls:

Make sure you don’t bring a cellphone or camera within 100 feet of a polling location.

Look up sample ballots to know what to expect when you get there.

Polling sites will be closing at 7 p.m. but as long as you are in line before the cut off time you will be allowed to vote.
