Senator Denied Entry at Brownsville Detention Center
BROWNSVILLE – An Oregon senator attempted to visit a detention center in Brownsville but was denied entry.
The incident was broadcast on Facebook and showed the staff declining his request.
Senator Jeff Merkley’s press office tells CHANNEL 5 NEWS that they requested permission to visit since Friday.
Police were called and the senator was told to leave.
The Office of Refugee Resettlement released a statement on the matter saying the request was denied for security reasons.
