Valley Rancher Confronts Drug Smugglers on Property

NEAR RIO GRANDE CITY – Fifty-six seconds was all the time it took for a group of men to traffic bundles of drugs through a residential neighborhood in Starr County.
Surveillance footage from a home captured the suspected criminals.
The video shows the group hiding in a brushy area at the last section of the dead end street. To get there the men had to journey nearly a mile with the bundles.
Once the men reach the dead end road, a truck pulls up and the bundles are loaded immediately. The driver stepped out for just 14 seconds to cover the bundles with a tarp.
The homeowner said the cameras help keep him and his family safe.
"When we saw it was getting more dangerous, we opted to put up cameras. They can leave a bundles on my property and if police show up and they'll say 'It's your house, it's yours’ and they can arrest you," said the man.
The homeowner confronted the suspected criminals once, but they told him it wouldn’t stop them from completing their mission.
The mayor of the town said it's difficult for small communities to cut down on drug and human smuggling because resources are limited.
He encourages the community to call police and report the crimes to help law enforcement track the drug dealers’ movement.
