2 Charged after Christmas Day Kidnapping at Progreso Port of Entry Parking Lot
PROGRESO – Two men are charged with trying to kidnap a woman from the parking lot to the Progreso port of entry.
Jesus Daniel Lugo, 29, and Brian Illas Hernandez, 39, were arrested and charged with aggravated kidnapping with a deadly weapon Thursday.
According to probable cause affidavits, the incident happened Christmas Day in the evening at the Progreso port of entry parking lot.
San Juan police responded to a call from a man claiming his girlfriend was kidnapped. Using his cellphone to locate her, police later found her at an apartment complex.
The couple was accompanied by a friend who witnessed the two arguing in the parking lot.
According to the witness, two unknown men were recording the argument. It led to a confrontation with the victim who demanded they delete the video. That's when the men forced the victim into a car at gun point and drove to San Juan.
The kidnapped woman told Hidalgo County sheriff's deputies she was forced into a Mercedes Benz SUV after they located her. The suspects and victim were inside when they were found. A gun was recovered from the vehicle.
Lugo and Hernandez were arrested and sent to jail. According to court documents, they told the investigators they did not know the victim.
A bond of $100,000 was issued to each.
