BROWNSVILLE – A Brownsville man’s hope for a new home is now in limbo after discovering a financial problem.

Manuel Moreno applied for a grant to buy a new home two years ago.

After being on the wait list and everything seemed to be going his way, he was told he owed thousands in taxes after changing property under his name.

He was moved to a higher tax bracket.

Cameron County Tax Assessor Tony Yzaguirre, Jr. says he’s willing to meet with Moreno to figure out a payment plan.

"The payment agreement was designed to help those types of individuals we know for a fact that there’s individuals out there that can't afford to pay their property taxes in full,” says Yzaguirre.

KRGV’s John Paul Barajas has the details.
