DONNA – A Donna business owner says he wants the road work in front of his restaurant shop to end.

Silvestre Sustaita has run his restaurant on south Salinas Boulevard in Donna for five years and has sold over 2 million wings.

He says about two years ago, roadwork began on FM 493 and about a year later they stopped working on it without explanation.

Sustaita says the dust from the caliche or threat of an accident due to unfinished roadwork interferes with his work.

"Maybe if we had a entrance, a regular entrance like a regular business does, maybe would could have more potential customers coming in,” he says.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to the Texas Department of Transportation to find out when the project would be complete.

TXDoT spokesperson, Octavio Saenz, says the changes from FM 493 are due to delay from a utility.

"We should be done with the project by, according to the adjusted schedule; by March 2020 and as of right now, that construction project is 50 percent complete," says Saenz.

He adds a lot of construction problems have delays.
