Driver Accused in Soldier's Death Officially Charged

EDINBURG- A driver accused in the death of a U.S. soldier went before a judge Saturday morning.

Twenty-five-year-old Edward Leo Magallan is charged with intoxication manslaughter.

Magallan is accused of hitting 19-year-old Cassandra Julianne Perez.

Police say Perez was standing outside of her stalled car early Friday morning when she was hit by a vehicle.

Officers say when they contacted Magallan, he showed signs of intoxication.

Magallan's bond was set at $150,000.

He faces up to 20 years in prison, if convicted.
