WATCH LIVE: Edcouch-Elsa ISD holds press conference following high school lockdown
Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District officials hold a press conference at the administration building following a lockdown at Edcouch-Elsa High School.
According to safety notice sent to high school parents from the district, a student reported another student may have a weapon on campus.
The notice said "that doesn't seem to be the case, but out of an abundance of caution, the campus is currently on lockdown."
EEISD campuses were in a precautionary lockdown following a "reported concern received via text," according to EEISD School Board President Dr. Juan Jose Ybarra.
Ybarra said Edcouch and Elsa police departments are conducting safety sweeps at all campus facilities and there is no confirmed threat; all students and staff are safe.
The Edcouch Police Department said they received a call from the Elsa Police Department about a possible student with a weapon at Edcouch-Elsa High School.
"We are working closely with law enforcement and will provide updates as more information becomes available," Ybarra said.
He said they are asking for the public's cooperation in avoiding campus areas while the process is ongoing.
This is a developing story, check back for further updates.
