Environmental Waivers to Propel Start of Gates Construction on Border Wall
WESLACO – The U.S. government is moving ahead to begin construction of several gates along the existing border wall.
Starting this month, these new gates would be built in Cameron County on existing levees.
The funds are from Customs and Border Protection’s 2017 budget.
The announcement for the gates along the existing border wall are something separate.
The Department of Homeland Security has congressional authority to waive laws requiring specific assessments to be done before construction starts.
