SANTA ROSA – Flood water still surrounds some homes near Santa Rosa three weeks after the storms.

The Cameron County Emergency Management team is still working on a timeframe of when the water will be completely pumped out.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke to Santa Rosa resident, Norma Alejo, whose property remains underwater.

“About 32 inches of rain got into the house and if you go inside, it smells real bad and all the walls are damaged; everything is damaged," says Alejo.

We spoke to Cameron County operations Chief Juan Martinez.

He tells us they are pumping out 57 million gallons of water a day from a nearby road that leads to the main drainage system.

Martinez says the county can't go on private property to pump out water.

He says he hopes families stay patient; crews are noticing the water going down every day.

Martinez adds the only time they have turned off a water pump is for reposition or for maintenance.
