WESLACO – A freeze watch, gale warning and wind advisory are in effect for different parts of the Rio Grande Valley due to a cold front.

The National Weather Service extended the freeze watch to include all of Hidalgo and Starr counties and inland Willacy County; it begins late Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning.

A gale warning is in effect across the lower Texas coastal waters until 6 p.m. Tuesday, with a wind advisory also in effect until the same time.

"We're looking at also the potential for wind chill advisories, so when we see wind chills fall below 30 degrees for the Rio Grande Valley or below 25 degrees for the northern ranch lands, then we'll go ahead and issue a wind chill advisory,” says Mike Castillo, senior meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

Castillo explains the importance of taking precautions with pets, pipes and plants.

KRGV’s Cecilia Gutierrez explains it is recommended to dress in layers as well.
