Gov. Abbott kicks off back-to-school sales tax holiday at Alamo Walmart
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott was in Alamo on Thursday to commemorate the start of tax-free weekend for back-to-school shopping.
The tax-free weekend starts Friday, Aug. 7, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 9. Shoppers can buy qualifying items in person or online.
Qualifying items include school supplies, clothes and shoes.
"Now is the time when you can be able to slash more than 8% on the cost of items that you would buy to help your children be prepared to go back to school," Abbott said during a press conference at a Walmart store in Alamo.
