WESLACO - The government is looking at ways to keep up with the growing need for detention and processing of immigrants; part of their focus is in the Rio Grande Valley. 

The Department of Homeland Security is looking to provide more space and readily-accessible transportation through contracts, posted on a federal site in the past few days.

Customs and Border Protection posted a contract Wednesday looking to rent a small detention space at the Port of Brownsville.

It is meant to house and shelter a maximum of 30 people under federal custody.

Three meals a day and clothing will be provided; the length of contract is for five years with the option to expand it by six months. 

Immigrant children up to seventeen years old and families are the population a contractor will be responsible for moving nationwide.

This was posted Tuesday on the federal bidding site.

The transportation will include ground and aerial transportation.

The contractor will have to provide food, medical care, and clothing before they're taken to detention facilities.

They'll have to open an office in McAllen close the Border Patrol's Processing Center and 10 to 15 miles away from the airport.

The contractor will be expected to plan commercial or charter flights in a period of less than 24 hours.

The services will be for a year's length and could extend for four more years. 

The government is also looking to create detention space in three different sites along California, and in the Chicago and St. Paul area.

There's also a pending expansion to include a second tent in Donna.
