La Lomita Property Hearing Date Set
UPDATE (2/4): A hearing between the federal government and the catholic diocese of Brownsville is scheduled for Wednesday.
The hearing will determine if government surveyors are allowed access to the La Lomita property.
The hearing is scheduled for February 6th.
NEAR MISSION – The Brownsville Diocese, which oversees La Lomita Church, is waiting on a court decision to see if authorities will be granted access to the church grounds.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS previously reported the federal government was demanding “immediate possession” of the nearly 66 acres of land at La Lomita Church grounds as a possible border wall site.
KRGV’s John Paul Barajas spoke with Father Roy Snipes about the matter.
Father Roy claims the diocese isn’t giving up without a fight.
"The church is about hospitality not hostility so it’s about reaching out not about hiding behind a wall for fear that the people on the other side are dangerous to us,” says Father Roy.
