MERCEDES – A local cotton producer is concerned about profits potentially decreasing because of the rising cost of cotton seeds.

Sam Simmons joined several other Rio Grande Valley cotton producers at the Cotton and Grain Pre-Plant Conference in Mercedes on Tuesday.

These producers expressed their concerns about the rapidly deteriorating margin between the price of the seed and actual price of the cotton.

"The world market dictates the price, wherever they can buy the quality of cotton for the cheapest price is where they're going to go," says Simmons.

KRGV’s Frank McCaffrey has the details.
