Man Accused of Stealing Car with Child Still Inside in McAllen Charged

UPDATE (7/16): A man who stole a car with a child still inside of it was arrested and charged.

McAllen police charged 42-year-old Andres Lucero with theft of a vehicle and endangering a child.

Around 3:22 p.m. Monday, police believe he stole a car from the parking lot of a business on the 700 block of Bicentennial Blvd.

Lucero was arraigned Tuesday morning and issued a combined $50,000 bond.

MCALLEN – A child is safe after police say someone stole the vehicle they were in.

It happened Monday around 3:20 p.m. on the 700 block of North Bicentennial Blvd, near Hackberry Avenue.

McAllen police say the car theft happened after the mother had unloaded one of her children.

She was returning to the car to get her second child out of the vehicle when she saw it was gone, according to a witness there at the time of the incident.

The witness added it happened within a span of two minutes.

Officials were able to track down the vehicle and found the child unharmed.

A person of interest was detained.

The case is still under investigation.
