MISSION – A string of vehicle thefts in Mission have people on alert. The suspects behind the alleged thefts were captured in surveillance images crossing the vehicles into Mexico.

The Mission Police Department is searching for four people linked to the crimes.

“They just steal them, just take them across through one of our various ports of entry,” Lt. Jody Tittle with the Mission police said.

He said everyone is a potential target.

“Right now, there is no trend. It’s just an SUV, pickup truck, automobile, noting in particular,” he said.

Some people are more prone to having their vehicles stolen than other, Tittle mentioned.

“A lot of these burglaries on some of these auto thefts, the suspects just go by checking door handles,” he said.

One man was recently caught on surveillance snooping around driveways looking for an easy hit.

Martin Olivar said he’s fallen victim to thieves in the past. The burglars got in by pushing the windows of his van down.

“They broke in and they took like a speaker,” he said. “We noticed it the following day. We turned on the radio and it didn’t work.”

Olivar said the doors of his van were locked but it didn’t have an alarm. He does now.

Mission police are advising citizens to be cautious and alert when leaving their vehicle.

Anyone with information about the crimes can call Mission Crime Stoppers at 581-8477.
