Mother Charged with Capital Murder in Connection to Death of Newborn
RURAL MERCEDES--A mother is charged with capital murder in connection to death of a one-month-old baby girl.
34-year-old Maria Guadalupe Cardenas was arraigned Sunday.
The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office said dispatchers received a 911 call from a female, later identified as Cardenas, telling them she killed her baby.
The baby was later found dead near Mile 9 N and Mile 1 E in Rural Mercedes.
The Sheriff's office said Cardenas admitted to suffocating her daughter.
Cardenas was given a $1 Million bond. CHANNEL FIVE NEWS is told she's in the country illegally.
