'No confirmed threat:' Edcouch-Elsa High School on lockdown following report of student with a weapon on campus
Edcouch-Elsa Independent School District campuses are precautionary lockdown following a "reported concern received via text," according to EEISD School Board President Dr. Juan Jose Ybarra.
Ybarra said Edcouch and Elsa police departments are conducting safety sweeps at all campus facilities and there is no confirmed threat; all students and staff are safe.
The Edcouch Police Department said they received a call from the Elsa Police Department about a possible student with a weapon at Edcouch-Elsa High School.
According to safety notice sent to high school parents from the district, a student reported another student may have a weapon on campus.
The notice said "that doesn't seem to be the case, but out of an abundance of caution, the campus is currently on lockdown."
"We are working closely with law enforcement and will provide updates as more information becomes available," Ybarra said.
He said they are asking for the public's cooperation in avoiding campus areas while the process is ongoing.
A Channel 5 News crew is currently on the scene gathering more information.
