NWS: Valley’s August Record Temperatures Helped Steer Fernand Away

BROWNSVILLE – The threat of locally heavy rainfall from the reminiscent of Tropical Storm Fernand is still in the forecast for the Rio Grande Valley.

Experts say weather patterns from last month didn’t allow Fernand to hit the Valley head on.

A meteorologist with the National Weather Service says thanks to an upper level ridge that caused record breaking temperatures last month, the chance for flooding would have been greater.
